Put Driving Time to GOOD Use

When your out driving from one stop to the next… what do you listen to? Rush and Glenn are only on for a few hours.. what do you listen to the rest of the time?

I have always been a big believer in the motto… garbage in garbage out. I also think people should be working on their mind set on a daily basis. If it were up to me “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill would be required reading in school. I certainly enjoyed “To Kill a Mocking Bird” but I am certain my reading time would have been better spent had I been shown Mr. Hill’s works.

I have put together a website that your able to read or
download the audio of another wonderful book, “The Science of Getting Rich” by Wallace D. Wattles.Download and Enjoy…
Start putting your dead driving time to good use…
Improving YOU!

Make Your Donated Item… Brandable to You!

Once you have a business you will be asked to donate to many organizations. What I am about to share with you is coming from many years of raising money for a local group where I live. When I would ask for a donation and they said “no” I never took it personally.

Most of the time when someone said “no” it was just that their funds were tight. So please don’t think you’ll look like the bad guy if you politely say, “no”

The ones I liked the best were the ones who added… “good luck on your efforts” and they meant it.

When we as a business do donate we donate a basket of goodies.
I get a basket and fill it with chips, candy, crackers, cookies, ect. I always attach our business card so it does not get lost and try to display it so that you can’t miss who donated this great item.

For many years I always put together a huge basket for an annual fundraiser that was always held the day after Thanksgiving. Our beautiful basket was always held over for the live auction and the bidding was fierce. I was always pleased to hear that it brought a good price, always over $100.00.

I don’t donate to this local event anymore….WHY?
Because they don’t ask!… Silly People.

Be prepared to say “no’ to donation requests if you are not able. May I suggest the perfect donation would be a brandable product to YOU
when you can!

Free Vends and Other Such Stuff

Setting a machine to dispense a free vend at random is nice a nice way to reward someone for making a purchase. What normally happens when someone receives a free vended items is they make an additional purchase, because the money was already in their hand.

Several years ago we got T-Shirts with the Hershey’s logo on them. We also got a decal that drew attention to the promotion we were offering. Anyone who found a Hershey’s sticker on the back of their candy bar would get a free T-Shirt. Sales were brisk especially since we put the first sticker on the second candy bar to vend.

Use your imagination.. you could put coupons on the back of your product, perhaps a joint venture with a local sandwich shop.

This also sparks interaction with people who work at your stops… and interaction is always a good thing.

Some of these people may leave and the place where they go may need a vendor….. Who do you think they will think of?   You!
Of course!

You might offer people a finders fee if they are able to find you a stop to place your machine. People know people… connections are a good thing to have.

We were at a stop and the manager kept getting moved to different location. We placed vending machines in every move he made. Gotta love connections.

Good will and interaction is always a good thing.

Who Besides You Knows?

Just for a moment lets pretend that a serious injury has landed you in the hospital and you are unable to speak.

What would happen to your route? Sure it would be OK for a bit but we all know how important service is. No service means no money coming in.

Who would know where your stops are?

Many of the operators I speak with work alone. They do their entire route themselves. They do not have a partner what would know where the stop are and be able to help out if needed.

May I suggest you take a bit of time and write out this information… just in case. It doesn’t take long to write down the name of the business where your machines are located. a phone number and the name of a contact person. It might also be a good idea to indicate how often these stops are serviced and what kind of machine you have there…candy? soda? combo? gumball? ect…

Taking a few minutes now to jot down this information may save a great deal of time if something were to happen in the future.

Go back to the Boy Scout motto…… Be Prepared!

Just in case.

Do You Need Business Cards?

If your in business… You need Business Cards. When your just starting out, may I suggest you print your own business cards in small amounts.

Let me explain my reasoning for this.

Your just starting out and you are working with just a little capital. Office supply stores like Staples and Office Max offer you a very economical way to print your own business cards, all you need is a computer and a copier.

Making your own business cards is no different than making address labels. I would suggest you purchase both the business cards and the return address labels from the same manufacturer. I usually buy Avery.

If you have gumball machines you can buy the very small ones. I just bought Avery item # 8867 (1/2″ X 1 3/4″) white return labels. This would be the perfect size for you to print your name/business name a phone number and even an email address if you like. They are self sticking so your able to place them right on your gumball machine. Some people will want to post them for all to see but others like myself would probably post them in a more inconspicuous spot… but of course that is just me.

I would buy the larger address labels that are about the size of business cards to place on the other larger vending machines. These labels can be made to look just like what you plan on printing for your business cards. Name, phone number, perhaps an email address… do you have a logo?

It is easy to save this information to your computer to make them up as you go along. The reason I suggest you do this yourself is because it will save you money but more importantly you will be able to change it later as your business grows.

What would you change it to?……. Perhaps a website or at the very least a Facebook page. But I will save that for another post.

Making your own business cards and labels for your machines is really simple stuff. You may have to play with the cards and the labels to make them fit properly but I am trying to offer you a suggestion to get you started off in business the most economical way.

You want people to know YOU…. Your Branding yourself… so get stated!

The Winner is…. Diet Coke

According to Beverage digest, Diet Coke out sold Pepsi cola in the US for the first time in 2010. These figures were just released in March.

This is the break down

#1 Coca-Cola  1.6 Million cases sold in 2010
#2 Diet Coke   927 Million cases sold in 2010
#3 Pepsi         892 Million cases sold in 2010

No matter how you look at it that is a lot of COLA!!

Regular Coke has been number 1 for many years but 2010 was the first year that Diet Coke over took it’s rival Pepsi. Soft drink sales have fallen over the past 6 consecutive years. People are seeking healthy alternatives.

I find this report interesting but I must admit it does not reflect our sales. we sell much more Pepsi than Coke… either diet or regular, we always have.

What about you…
Do you sell more Coke than Pepsi?

Show Me The Money: NAMA OneShow To Feature Cash Giveaways

Source: NAMA | Released March 22, 2011
(3/29/2011)

Special Deals, Exclusive Prizes are Added Incentives for Vending Operators to Attend

CHICAGO, IL — March 22 – The National Automatic Merchandising Association’s (NAMA) OneShow, coming this April to Chicago, will be three days of jam-packed networking, learning and buying opportunities for vending, coffee service and foodservice operators. This year’s show also will bring the added excitement of twice-daily cash giveaways. “We’re adding a whole new meaning to the term ‘cash flow,’” said NAMA Senior Director, OneShow and Education LyNae Schleyer, NCE, CMP.

Thanks to the generosity of G&J Marketing, operator attendees at the OneShow will be eligible to win $2,000 in cash — just by being present on the show floor. There will be two random drawings each day right on the floor but operator attendees must be properly badged to win. “Excitement is building as we add more and more reasons to show up for success at the OneShow,” Schleyer said. “Imagine the thrill of winning and walking away with $2,000! All just for being at the OneShow and doing business with your friends and colleagues.”

Attendees will have plenty of other chances to help cover their OneShow travel investment since major industry suppliers will be offering Show Specials. These are exclusive, one-time-only deals that will provide favorable pricing and/or terms on everything operators need to successfully run their businesses.

“These brand-new exhibitor show specials are a key reason why operators should not only plan to attend the OneShow, but be prepared to place orders and enjoy the associated savings,” Schleyer said. “And if all that isn’t exciting enough, we know some suppliers are offering incentives to make purchases during the show itself with big-dollar awards. But you have to actually place the order at the show to earn those savings!”

The NAMA OneShow runs from Wednesday – Friday, April 27-29, 2011, at McCormick Place North in Chicago. It is the vending, coffee service and foodservice industry’s must-attend event for operators to see cutting-edge technology and industry innovations, meet with industry peers under one roof and learn how to grow their business. “When you walk the show floor, be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for great deals,” Schleyer counsels attendees. “And make sure to wear your OneShow badge at all times to be eligible for cash giveaways.”

For additional information, or to register for the OneShow, visit www.NAMAOneShow.org. Follow the OneShow on Facebook and Twitter for the latest news on the industry’s annual event.

Seminar Selling|Vending Machines

Our first introduction to the vending machine business was from a notice that we got in the paper about a Vending Seminar.  It was being held about an hour away in Allen Park, Michigan.
We were there along with about 200 other people. They had all sorts of vending machines on display.
The presenters gave their talk about the different kinds of machines. Not only would they help you place the machines but they were also there to help you finance them. The presenters were very interesting… especially when they got to the charts and the graphs. These were very big and very colorful, they showed just how much you would make if you had a vending business. Now remember they had not only the vending machines but also the financing and…. they were going to help you place those brand spanking new vending machines so we could start on our way to making a fortune. Not only that but we would only have to work 2 days a week at the most. Now I ask you…. does that sound like a great business to be in or what!!!!

So if the charts and graphs showed how much we could make with just 1 or 2 machines, lets just figure how much we could make with a few more machines. Keep in mind you may have to work 3 days a week. But not to worry cause the stops and the financing were all going to be taken care of.
I bet there were businesses out there just waiting for us to place those new machines at their place. May I repeat… financing was all taken care of.
How could you not pull out your credit card and sign that almost to good to be true agreement on the dotted line?
My husband who had been in sales all of his life was a bit more skeptical than others in attendance AND me…thank goodness.
During the break he chit chatted with a few of the presenters and got the card of a gentleman by the name of Clark… and we LEFT!!!!!!
We got in the car and I asked him why we didn’t buy those machines and be on our way to retiring in just a couple of years. Only having to work 2 or 3 days a week.
Well the look that he gave me made me wonder what he knew that I didn’t.
The following week he called Clark. A few weeks later we had our first stop and our first vending machine.
We still have that same machine and that same stop. That was well over 15 years ago

Seminars are for getting information, asking questions, seeing what is available. PERIOD!Read this report about Seminar Selling.

Do you have bugs in your machines?

Do you have bugs in your machines? The creepy crawly kind?  Ants can be a real problem. How many times have you put out ant traps?

Many times this cannot be avoided…. If the machines are placed somewhere there are bugs to begin with some will most likely end up in your vending machine.

I have used Diatomaceous Earth (DE) for years. Not only to kill bugs but also for my health.

DE is all natural, you could put it  in the bottom of your vending machine and it will kill any bugs that comes in contact with it.
Check out How It Works!
